When and where is the retreat?

Do you take everyone who applies?

We cannot and should not. Acceptance is dependent on readiness for this retreat experience (established regular personal prayer and previous experience sharing one's spiritual journey) and availability of directors.  The application asks each person to give us reference, write a faith biography and be without serious personal problems which would be more appropriately handled in another forum.   top

What about couples?

We encourage couples to make the retreat at the same time if both are ready. Each would be directed separately and individually.   top

How do you pray for an hour?

People grow into the full hour with the help of a director.  Without regular, relatively lengthy periods of prayer, the Spiritual Exercises are not possible.  The spiritual director will help you discover how best you pray, how God prays in you and where God is leading you.   top

Who are these directors?

The directors are a group of people who have made the retreat themselves and been prepared to lead others in this experience. Each of our directors participates in a two year program of discernment, education, and formation. Additionally, all SEEL directors are in personal spiritual direction and supervision. They are people who know this secret: God is the real director and the individual retreatant will find his or her direction with their help.

How is an individual's director chosen?

The Core Team matches retreatants with directors after they have heard the qualities he or she desires in a director, read each faith autobiography, and have taken time for prayerful discernment.   top

When and where is the retreat?

SEEL Puget Sound is one program with two separate settings. Groups meet for nine sessions on Saturday mornings in Tacoma, WA at St. Leo Church or in Seattle, WA at St. Joseph Church.  Participants come from all over Western Washington.  Applications for the retreat are due by Aug 1. There are often openings after this date, but please check with the SEEL office!

Because there is room for only a limited number of participants, it is possible that the retreat will be full early in August.  Orientations are held in mid-September, and meetings continue through the following mid-May.  The 2010-11 retreat dates are: Sept 25, Oct 16, Nov 13, Dec 11, Jan 22 ( 2011), Feb 26, Mar 26, April 30, May 21.
